Reading Group at Bluecoat: Examining the Logistic City

Historically, port cities have been sites for colonial expansion, producing globalized spaces and networks at an accelerated pace since the 19th century. Since then, the global political economy has expanded, contracted, and re expanded through a variety of mechanisms that have institutionalized capitalist social relations at a macro scale. The contemporary logistic city, characterized as sites with elaborate network infrastructures that permit the fluidity of goods and people, have become the material representation of a global economic liberalization project.

Port to Port, a curatorial initiative founded by Sofia Bastidas and Guillermo León Gómez, will lead a monthly reading group, directing our critical attention to logistics at the port. Readings on labor, trade, logistics and network infrastructures will be surveyed and discussed, with texts that include Deborah CowenSandro Mezzadra and Brett NeilsonClare LysterStephen Graham, and Keller Easterling

The Port to Port Reading Group takes place every month, 6pm - 8pm at Bluecoat Contemporary Art Center in Liverpool.
